Frequently Asked Questions

How does the AI detect the most viral moments?
The AI uses three heuristic signals: (1) Audio energy peaks — loud moments like applause, laughter, or music drops are detected using FFmpeg's audio analysis; (2) Scene change detection — rapid visual changes indicating action or fast-paced content; (3) Motion activity — measuring how much visual movement occurs per second. These signals are combined into a per-second score, and the highest-scoring non-overlapping windows become your clips.
Can I download YouTube videos using this tool?
No. Downloading YouTube videos violates YouTube's Terms of Service. AI Shorts Maker only processes videos you upload from your own device — content you own and have full rights to. If you paste a YouTube URL, we only fetch the video's title and description via the official YouTube API to help generate better metadata — the video file is never downloaded.
What video formats and sizes are supported?
Supported formats: MP4, MOV, AVI. Maximum file size: 500MB. Maximum video length: 60 minutes. Output clips are always MP4 files in 9:16 vertical format (1080×1920) optimized for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok — unless you select "Keep Original Ratio".
What clip length should I choose?
20 seconds — Maximum energy hooks, great for viral challenge content. 30 seconds — The sweet spot for the YouTube Shorts algorithm (⭐ recommended). 45 seconds — Great for storytelling with a complete arc. 60 seconds — Maximum Shorts length, best for tutorials and deep explanations.
How long does processing take?
Processing time depends on video length: a 10-minute video takes ~1–2 minutes; a 30-minute video takes ~3–5 minutes; a 60-minute video may take up to 10 minutes. The highlight detection and video encoding are the most time-intensive steps. You'll see a live progress bar during processing.
Are my uploaded videos stored permanently on your servers?
No. Your videos are temporarily stored during processing and automatically deleted within 1 hour. We do not retain, share, or use your video content for any purpose other than generating the clips you requested. Download your clips promptly after processing.
Can I use this tool on mobile?
Yes, the tool is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. Video upload from mobile may be slower for large files — use Wi-Fi for videos over 100MB. Video preview in the results grid plays inline on both iOS and Android.
What is the difference between Viral Moments and Evenly Spaced modes?
Viral Moments uses AI analysis to find the most engaging, high-energy moments — ideal for interviews, gaming, vlogs, sports, or any content where specific moments are more exciting. Evenly Spaced distributes clips uniformly throughout your video — ideal for tutorials, online courses, or documentary content where every part has equal value.
